2518A - Cardboard Box Sled Contest

Come join the fun during the 33rd Annual Winter Carnival at Wasserman Park on Saturday, February 8th. Test your creativity by constructing a person powered, corrugated cardboard sled capable of withstanding and completing a mind-chilling descent down a snow covered hill!

Participants of all ages are invited to compete in a sledding event in which sleds built ONLY out of corrugated cardboard, duct tape, tape, glue, paper and paint will be judged upon appearance, durability, and slide ability in this weird, wacky and fun event! Using any other material (ie: wood, metal, fiberglass, rigid plastic, etc) is not permitted.

This is a Free Event -but advanced registration is required.

Design Guidelines:
1. Only regular cardboard, duct tape, masking tape, scotch tape, glue, paper and paint may be used to construct the cardboard sleds.
2. Any type of paint may be used to decorate sleds.
3. No industrial pressed cardboard, NO PLASTICS OF ANY KIND.
4. Sled cannot be wrapped in plastic, shrink wrap, or anything else.
5. No wood, glass, metal, staples, twine, or wire will be permitted on sled.
6. Keep designs family friendly!

Race Rules:
Judges will rate each craft initially for originality, costumes and construction/design. Each sled must also complete one run to the bottom of the hill. In case of a tie for 1st place, there will be a sled-off. First sled to the bottom on the run will be declared the winner!
1. No more than 2 participants per sled.
2. All participants are encouraged to wear protective head gear. (i.e. ski/bicycle helmets)
3. All sleds, parts and participants have to cross the finish line! Participants should make every possible effort to remain in their sleds for the duration of the race.
4. There will be two race classes: Class I is for ages 5-9 and Class II are for ages 10 and up. You will select your category at time of registration.

Pre-Judging and Rules: 1:00 – 1:15 pm
Races start at: 1:30 pm

PRIZES WILL BE AWARDED FOR:
1. Fastest sled
2. Best use of cardboard
3. Most creative design
